Holy Cross School is building a new playground, one brick at a time.
The Charlotte school is hoping for construction and a ribbon cutting next year on the playground, which will include state-of-the-art equipment for preschool and school-aged children, new benches and a brick sidewalk. The school has planned for the playground for a year, and recently received notice that it was approved for a $50,000 grant through the state’s Community Capitol Program, sponsored by Sen. Joseph Robach.
“This is a great way to take part in a project that will directly benefit children, and at the same time, honor a loved one with their name permanently in the sidewalk,” said Julie Swan of Greece, playground committee chairwoman and parent of three Holy Cross students.
Engraved bricks are still available to buy for the sidewalk. They are $50 for a 4-by-8-inch brick and up to two lines of engraved text, or $100 for an 8-by-8-inch brick with up to four lines of text. Swan will take phone orders at 585/225-0701 or 585/330-7927. She also will mail order forms upon request.
