For the past 13 years, Holy Family School in Elmira has led the way with the local food drive known as "March Out Hunger." This year, the event raised over 21,000 food items, which were donated to Catholic Charities of Chemung County and the Meals On Wheels "Blizzard Pack" program. The food drive originally began under the leadership of Bob Lagonegro, in partnership with Holy Family, one local public school and a senior citizens group. Today, several regional schools have added their support as well as Top’s Friendly Markets, Chemung Canal Trust Company and Walgreens. The overall event was termed "An awesome success" by spokesperson Marianne Kalec.
