Holy Family liturgy notes Native Americans

Holy Family Catholic Community, a four-church parish in northern Steuben and southern Livingston counties, put a special focus on Native Americans during a combined Children’s Mass Nov. 18 at St. Pius V Church, Cohocton.

On that day, young people learned about St. Kateri Tekakwitha — who was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI this past Oct. 21 — and made Native American chaplets to remember her by. They also heard a rendition of Native American lore concerning the first Thanksgiving, featuring the playing of a buffalo hide drum and songs of thanksgiving of the Crow tribe.
