Homilies to reflect on order of the Mass

As a prelude to implementation of the newly translated Roman Missal, diocesan parishes will focus their Sunday homilies in February on the order of the Mass.

Broken down into four segments, the themes as outlined by diocesan officials are: Feb. 6, introductory rites; Feb. 13, Liturgy of the Word; Feb. 20, Liturgy of the Eucharist; and Feb. 27, blessing/dismissal and living the Eucharist.

The February homilies are intended as a general review and reflection on these parts of the Mass, according to Bernard Grizard and Deacon John Brasley in the diocesan Office of Liturgy, which is part of diocesan Parish Support Ministries. The homilies can be given by whoever is scheduled to preach, whether that be the pastoral leader, another priest or deacon, they said.
