Students at St. Mary Our Mother School in Horseheads may be too young to vote, but they prepared well for the future by taking part in a mock presidential election Oct. 27.
The event involved voter registration, sixth-grade student candidates giving speeches, students casting ballots for the candidate of their choice and a winner being announced after the votes were counted. Festivities also included patriotic songs and the Pledge of Allegiance in a red, white and blue atmosphere.
School officials noted that the mock election is not only fun, but also a valuable tool for encouraging students to vote when they become of age.
