St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira has planned several events to mark National Hospital Week, which begins May 11. They are as follows:
* Sunday, May 11 — Mother’s Day: Carnations will be placed on the breakfast tray of every female patient.
* Monday, May 12 — Silver Plus Reception: honoring employees with 25 or more years of service; Cusick Meeting Room at the hospital; 3:30 to 5 p.m.
* Tuesday, May 13 — Service Awards/Retirement Dinner: Holiday Inn Riverview, 6 p.m.
* Wednesday, May 14 — Sisters Day: All Sisters of St. Joseph working at the hospital will receive flowers.
In addition, the Southern Tier’s other Catholic hospital, St. James Mercy in Hornell, will hold a community blood screening at week’s end. That service, being held in conjunction with the Hornell Rotary Club, will take place from 6 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the cafeteria of St. James Mercy Hospital (use the Canisteo Street entrance.) The blood-screening program serves as an early warning system in identifying current or potential health problems. A comprehensive blood screening is conducted for a $35 fee with the results sent to the participant’s physician. Additional screenings for prostate and colorectal cancer are available for an additional fee as well. Call 607-324-8188 to register.
