Housing project now accepting applicants

Low-income individuals with mental illnesses may apply, through agency referral, for apartments in the brand-new McNiff Commons.

This complex of 11 one-bedroom apartments, located at 401 Powell St. near downtown Elmira, was due to open in January. Apartments are available to any household in which the head has the diagnosis of a mental illness, and the household is at or below 50 percent of the area median income. McNiff Commons will accept referrals from all agencies providing care/case management for individuals diagnosed with mental illness. Applications are available by calling 607/767-0116.

Providence Housing Development Corp., an affiliate of diocesan Catholic Charities, is the developer and will serve as management agent.
