Molly Huddle, a 2002 graduate of Elmira Notre Dame High School, ran her first-ever marathon Nov. 6, taking third place in the women’s division.
Huddle completed the New York City Marathon’s 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 28 minutes and 13 seconds.
Less than three months earlier, she set a new United States record in the women’s outdoor 10,000-meter run Aug. 12 during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She recorded a time of 30 minutes, 13.17 seconds to place sixth.
Huddle, who grew up in Elmira’s Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, won numerous sectional and state titles in both cross-country and track and field at Elmira Notre Dame. She went on to become a 10-time All-American runner with the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 2007.
