Molly Huddle, a 2002 graduate of Elmira Notre Dame High School, closed out her collegiate career in style with a third-place finish nationally at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Huddle, running for the University of Notre Dame, posted a time of 15 minutes, 37.65 seconds in the women’s 5,000-meter run at the national finals, held June 8 in Sacramento, Calif. Last year she finished second in the same event — the best finish ever by a Notre Dame female track athlete, either indoors or outdoors.
Huddle, a fifth-year senior, was running her final collegiate race on June 8. Her third-place performance made her a 10-time All-American at Notre Dame, where she also has been a standout in cross-country and indoor track. She holds the school record for most All-American selections by any athlete in any sport.
While at Elmira Notre Dame, Huddle earned numerous state and Section 4 championships in both track and cross-country.
