To the editor:
I recently attended the Steubenville High School Conference at the Franciscan University of Steubenville along with three busloads of teens, youth ministers, chaperones, and priests from around our diocese. Over 2,000 of us spent two days in spirited worship and events designed to support our growth in discipleship.
To say the least, I was very impressed with the events of the weekend and got a dose of joy and energy watching so many teens participate in the conference. In particular I was impressed both with the wise and insightful confessions I heard which challenged me in my own faith journey and the “altar call” at which hundreds of young women and men came forward to declare that they were open to a call to religious life or ordained ministry.
We were told that there were three other Steubenville conferences happening around the country that weekend with around 14,000 people in attendance! My hope is that more of our teens will have the opportunity to attend one of these conferences. The weekend is a wonderful way to stoke the fires of faith and deepen our commitment to Christ.
