To the editor:
Thanks to the organizers of the Diocesan Pastoral Leadership Day held at Keuka College on Saturday March 12. It was a rejuvenating, prayer-filled “retreat,” which I am hopeful will help to sow seeds of good fruit back in our parishes.
The president of Keuka College, Dr. Joseph G. Burke, pointed out that the very location of our gathering had undergone great change and continues to do so. In earlier times the location of Keuka College was a meeting place for the indigenous people, then later a Baptist college was built on the land, and today the college comprises a student population that is 60 percent Catholic, including the president himself!
The keynote speakers, Father Patrick van Durme and Pastoral Administrator Charlotte Bruney, were inspiring when they shared how heart-wrenching changes that face our Diocese can be shouldered bravely by parishioners when communication is open, honest and positive. It helped me to realize that change, if and when led by the Holy Spirit, can be “a very Good thing.”
