Interlaken parish holds 45th annual barbecue

St. Francis Solanus Parish in Interlaken will hold its 45th annual barbecue and raffle at noon July 17 at St. Fidelis Friary, 7790 County Road 153 in Interlaken.

Father William Winters, OFM Cap., pastor, calls the event “the premier barbecue in the area.” It is also the parish’s sole fundraiser.

A meal will cost $7, and includes chicken, salad, cole slaw, baked beans, a roll and coffee, iced tea or lemonade. Soda and bottled water will be sold separately, and there will also be a cake wheel and entertainment. Meals may be taken out or eaten on the friary grounds under the tents provided. The friary has a boat dock on Cayuga Lake, so guests arriving by boat are welcome. The winner of the raffle will be drawn between 3:30 and 4 p.m.

First prize in the raffle is $2,000 toward a trip to a destination of the winner’s choosing; second prize is a $300 gift certificate to Lowe’s home-improvement store; third prize is two tickets to the Aug. 22 Neil Diamond concert at the Pepsi Arena in Albany; and fourth prize includes two free dinners at Sheldrake Point Vineyard and Cafe in Ovid, a case of wine and two tickets to a play at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca.

Raffle tickets may be purchased for $10 from St. Francis parishioners or by calling the parish office at 607/869-2261.
