Irondequoit native enters novitiate

On Dec. 12, 2009, Irondequoit native Krystyn Schmerbeck became a novice of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin Matara, which is located in Upper Marlboro, Md. She is now known as Sister Maria Vera Luce.

Schmerbeck grew up in St. Cecilia Parish in Irondequoit, where she was an altar server, lector and a parish council representative from the youth group. She is a graduate of Eastridge High School and Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. In 2006 she received a master’s degree in public policy from George Washington University.
