Jan. 19 service will offer prayers for newly elected leaders

On Monday, Jan. 19, the eve of President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, Bishop Matthew H. Clark and other local faith leaders and public officials will gather for a special community interfaith prayer service at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester.

Prayers and readings will be offered for the president-elect and all recently elected public officials.

The event will include a performance by baritone Derrick Smith, a Rochester native who has earned international acclaim for roles in opera and musical theater. Smith is a vocal instructor at the Eastman Community Music School.
