Joseph Mannara, 78; served Most Precious Blood church, school

Joseph Mannara, a parishioner of Most Precious Blood Church for more than 50 years, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 after a long illness. He was 78.

Mr. Mannara grew up in Rochester’s St. Michael Parish. After graduating from Edison Tech High School he served in the U.S. Navy. He and his wife, Shirley, were active members at Most Precious Blood, where Mr. Mannara served as president of the Parents’ Club and the Men’s Club, head usher, and in numerous other capacities around the school and church. He was a retiree of the Rochester Telephone Company and a past commander of the Butler-Bevin Legion Post.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mr. Mannara is survived by his son, Kevin Mannara; daughter, Karin Christanis; two grandsons; and several sisters and brothers.

His funeral Mass was held Dec. 6, 2008, at Sacred Heart Cathedral followed by burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
