Several Southern Tier parishes are continuing their efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.
* A fundraising spaghetti-and-meatball dinner will be held by Schuyler Catholic Community on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the parish center of St. Mary of the Lake Church, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. Tickets are on sale in advance and at the door. Call 607/535-2786 for details.
* An ecumenical prayer service will take place Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 6th and Decatur streets, Watkins Glen.
* A bottle-and-can drive is being planned by the religious-education office of St. Mary’s Southside Parish in Elmira.
* Many parishes are still taking up special collections. Of special note are Our Lady of the Valley in western Steuben County, which collected $5,258 the weekend of Sept. 10-11 for a two-week total of $11,682; Holy Cross in Dryden, which garnered $3,144; All Saints in Lansing, $3,070; and St. Anthony in Groton, $2,454.
