Keeping cool while capturing candids

The end of the school year is always an excellent time to get some great candid shots of the kids at local Catholic schools. Many schools treat their kids to a field day, giving the student’s free rein of the school grounds for a variety of warm-weather outdoor activities.

June 18 was a particularly warm day — one I was overdressed for — but Penfield’s St. Joseph School was prepared to fight the sun with several sprinklers scattered near the activities. It’s always good practice to get close to the action you’re photographing, but on that day I had to, because those stray water droplets saved me.

Good thing for weather-sealed cameras.
