For Elmira-area Catholics who haven’t made it to weekend Mass by Sunday afternoon, they still have the option of attending the 5 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick’s Church.
The air-conditioned church, located at Clinton Street at Park Place in Elmira, hosts the Mass every Sunday. The liturgy began in 2002 and was developed by the Chemung/Schuyler Regional Pastoral Council. Priests from area churches take regular turns celebrating the late-afternoon liturgy, and parishioners rotate liturgical roles. Envelopes placed in the collection during Mass are returned to their respective parishes, with loose change going toward a regional expense treasury as well as expenses incurred by St. Patrick’s.
