Lawyers, judges and all others associated with the legal community are invited to attend the annual Red Mass at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 20 Pleasant St., Rochester.
Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will preside at the Mass — also called the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit — which requests prayers for assistance on behalf of judges, lawyers and all associated with the legal community. The Mass originated in England in the 13th century and gets its name from the red vestments clergy wore that were symbolic of the Holy Spirit’s tongues of flame, as well as the scarlet robes traditionally worn by justices and academic officials in England.
The St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild will sponsor a reception following the Mass.
