To the editor:
It is no coincidence that the Catholic Church in the United States and in New York state has failed in its efforts to reduce the number of abortions, the increase in physician suicides, violent abuse within families, racism, the opioid epidemic, and continued decline in ecological systems.
The population of refugee and displaced persons across the globe currently numbers approximately 65 million people. The cost of world-wide militarism in 2015 is 14.3 trillion dollars (Global Peace Index 2015, Institute for Economics & Peace).
Until the United States Catholic Church leadership fully engages in teaching that war is institutionally sponsored murder, and permanently rejects its archaic "Just War" teaching, such cowardly endorsement of Cafeteria Catholicism by the United States Conference of Bishops will undermine its moral authority on all other social issues.
