Lobbyist to be honored with Holmsten Award

The Rev. Duane R. Motley will be presented with the Leo Holmsten Human Life Award during a banquet on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 125 E. Main St., Rochester.

Motley is a widely recognized state pro-life lobbyist with 26 years of experience. He established and serves as executive director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms Inc. as well as New Yorker”s Family Research Foundation Inc. He also is a founder of First Bible Baptist Church in Greece.

The Holmsten Award is bestowed annually by the Leo Holmsten Human Life Committee, a coalition of Catholic and other pro-life groups. Its inaugural recipient in 1997 was the late Dr. Leo Holmsten, a former abortion provider and Planned Parenthood medical director who later became an outspoken pro-life activist.

Morehouse; 2003 — Carol and Richard Crossed; 2004 — Justice William P. Polito; 2005 — Geraldine Oftedahl; 2006 — Dr. Barbara and Jan Fredericks; and 2007 — Jann Armantrout.
