Local communities host Relay for Life

Four communities in the Finger Lakes area will host the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in the next few weeks.

During the relay, teams of 10 to 15 people each take turns walking around a track or path in the community overnight to raise money for and awareness of the fight against cancer. The event begins with a cancer survivors’ walk around the track, and at nightfall a candlelight vigil is held to honor those who have died of cancer or are survivors. There will be a special ceremony and lap for those who take care of people with cancer.

The Relay for Life will take place at Yates County Fairgrounds in Penn Yan May 20-21; Waterloo High School June 3-4; Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra June 3-4; and Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva June 17-18.
