Father Kevin McKenna, pastor of the Cathedral Community, has updated his book, A Concise Guide to Catholic Social Teaching, with new church documents.
Father McKenna, past president of the Canon Law Society of America and former chancellor and canonical consultant for the Diocese of Rochester, incorporated documents released in the past decade from Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The book aims to be a resource for preaching, teaching, self-study or group conversation.
The book also includes a thematic homily and catechetical message guide, a chart of historic milestones, key papal biographies, a sample penance service and additional digital materials.
In the book, Father McKenna builds on the themes of human dignity, community, rights and responsibilities, option for the poor, dignity of work, solidarity and care of creation to distill Catholic social teaching into short summaries.
The book, published by Ave Maria Press, is 192 pages and retails for $16.95.
