St. Mary’s School will hold its fifth annual Youth Enterprise Business Day Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium, 16 Gibson St., Canandaigua. Admission is free for the event, where 30 small businesses — all created and run by students — will be selling their products and services. After tallying up their profits from Youth Enterprise Business Day, students donate 10 percent of their earnings to local charities.
At the beginning of each school year the teachers at St. Mary’s challenge their students to write business plans, project costs, develop marketing, produce their products and form business entities. In the past, these student-run companies have produced and sold a wide variety of products, including nachos, muffin mixes and used books. Several businesses have offered carnival-style games.
