Aquinas Institute announced Sept. 17 that it has received $2 million toward an auditorium renovation and construction of a new library.
The family of Tom Bell has committed a $1 million memorial gift for a complete renovation of the school’s auditorium. It will be renamed the "Thomas F. Bell ’57 Auditorium." Bell was a 1957 Aquinas graduate who died in May 2008. Several of his family members graduated from the school as well.
In addition, the Mary P. Hastings & Ann K. Wegman Library will be funded by $500,000 donations each from Robert F. Hastings, a 1949 Aquinas graduate, and Philip R. Wegman, a 1961 alumnus. The planned state-of-the-art facility is being named in honor of the donors’ wives, both of who have backgrounds as educators.
This announcement comes on the heels of two recently completed projects. Over this past summer, a $500,000 renovation provided additional classroom space for the high school as well as the addition of a junior high that opened at Aquinas in the fall.
Meanwhile, the Robert B. Wegman ’37 Fitness Center will be dedicated Sept. 20 as part of the school’s alumni reunion weekend. The new field house provides three basketball courts; an indoor track; baseball and softball batting cages; and additional practice space for all Little Irish athletic teams from modified through varsity levels. Also included is a 4,500-square-foot strength-and-conditioning facility.
