A special Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral, as well as several bus opportunities to Washington, D.C., are available for those wishing to commemorate the March for Life.
On Sunday, Jan. 17, Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will celebrate a Year of Mercy Mass for Life at the cathedral beginning at 11:15 a.m. All are welcomed to the liturgy, which will offer prayer for all human life, particularly legal protection of the unborn. Participants also will be praying for the hundreds of pilgrims traveling from the Diocese of Rochester to the nation’s capital later that week for the national March for Life.
The annual march, to be held on Friday, Jan. 22, commemorates the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion in this country. Bishop Matano will concelebrate a 10 a.m. Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and he also will march with the diocesan contingent beginning at 12:45 p.m.
Buses will leave late Thursday night, Jan. 21, from the Rochester Diocese and return the following night. The five departure locations, along with reservation information, are as follows:
