A commemorative Mass was held Sept. 11 at Rochester’s Sacred Heart Cathedral on the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The liturgy, which was celebrated by Bishop Matthew H. Clark, paid tribute to the approximately 3,000 people who were killed in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. This total included more than 400 emergency workers, mostly firefighters — “those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their neighbors,” as Bishop Clark put it.
