Mayors to speak at Phelps parish Oct. 17

St. Francis Parish in Phelps will host “An Evening with our Mayors” at 6 p.m. Oct. 17. The evening will be the third installment of the St. Felix/St. Francis Parish Cluster’s Faith and Life series.

Bill Hunter, mayor of Clifton Springs, and Jim Cheney, mayor of Phelps, will be the featured speakers, and both are active members of the parish cluster.

Hunter is a former teacher and has been mayor of Clifton Springs since 1995. He’s been involved with the local fire department and has served on several local boards of directors. Cheney has been mayor of Phelps since 2000. He runs a public accounting practice, is co-owner of Phelps Mercantile and serves on the Ontario National Bank Board of Directors. He also co-founded the House of John and Community Action Plan for Phelps.

The evening will begin with a potluck supper, and participants are asked to bring a dish to pass. The discussion about faith and government will begin at 6:30 p.m.
