Dominic Bozzelli, a 2009 graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School, is making a big splash in his rookie season on the Professional Golfers Association tour.
In the PGA’s CareerBuilder Challenge, held Jan. 19-22 in La Quinta, Calif., Bozzelli finished all alone in fifth place with rounds of 64, 67, 69 and 71. His four-day total of 271 was 17 under par and only three shots behind winner Hudson Swafford.
Bozzelli earned $232,000 for his efforts in what was, by far, his best finish yet on the PGA Tour. He was the first-round leader at the CareerBuilder event and only one stroke off the lead heading into the final round.
While attending McQuaid, Bozzelli won the NYSPHSAA state championship in both his junior and senior years. He went on to play Division I golf for Auburn University, turning professional in 2013. The 25-year-old earned his PGA playing card last year following a successful season on the Web.com Tour.
