Sister Mary Anne Steinmetz, 93, a Sister of Mercy, died Aug. 29, 2006.
She entered the congregation from St. Januarius Parish in Naples. She taught German and Latin at Our Lady of Mercy High School in Brighton from 1939-55 and Notre Dame High School in Elmira from 1955-72). After four years at St. Mary’s House of Prayer in Corning, she returned to Mercy High School as AV coordinator until her retirement in 1993.
Sister Steinmetz is survived by her sister, Anne; several nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Mercy. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel by Father Michael Upson on Sept. 1, 2006, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
