Sister of Mercy Mary Marena Buckland, a native of St. Ambrose Parish in Rochester, died Sept. 6, 2006, at the age of 68.
An elementary teacher for 23 years, she served at Holy Cross and St. Andrew Schools, Rochester; St. Vincent, Corning; St. Michael, Newark; St. Rita, Webster; and Good Shepherd, Henrietta. Failing health caused her to leave teaching in 1982. Thereafter, she continued to share her creative abilities, including her love of music.
Sister Buckland is survived by her brother, Kevin (Bonnie) Buckland; sisters-in-law Carolyn and Marie Buckland; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated by Father Michael Upson on Sept. 9, 2006, at the Mercy Motherhouse Chapel. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester NY 14610.
