Military action is necessary

To the editor:

December’s letter “War in Iraq not pro-life” by Marie and Deacon Eugene Fuerst would have us believe that U.S. forces are indiscriminately killing Iraqi civilians. This isn’t true as our military are risking their lives to protect civilians.

There is also the charge that one million Iraqis have died as the result of economic sanctions.

Again untrue as U.S. forces have uncovered warehouses bulging with rotting food that Saddam Hussein denied his people.

Hundred of thousands of bodies have been uncovered in mass grave sites. There is little doubt that these deaths were the result of Saddam’s genocidal policies.

Sept. 11 was a wake up call that let us know that there are raging fanatics out there intent in killing us all.

While prayer, fasting and following church teachings are paramount, we must also defend ourselves militarily.

President Bush understands that fact as well as protecting the lives of the unborn. Unfortunately, his opponent who claimed to be a Catholic, supported abortion, even partial-birth abortion.

The late saint Mother Teresa understood that abortion is the root cause of violence. Let us heed her advice and work to end abortion.
