German, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish music will be highlighted in a multiethnic concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Light of Christ Parish at St. Andrew Church, 923 Portland Ave., Rochester. The concert, part of the Music at St. Andrew series, is being planned by the City East Planning Group, which comprises Light of Christ Parish at St. Andrew and Church of the Annunciation, St. George and St. Stanislaus parishes.
The concert will feature vocal groups from St. George, St. Stanislaus, and the local Italian and German communities. Polish bagpiper Jack Jarosinski also will play the Polish national anthem during the concert.
The finale will feature the audience and the choirs singing “A Hymn of Praise and Thanksgiving” with original English lyrics written by Donald Messina and set to the “Va pensiero” chorus from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Nabucco.” National flags will be presented with a concluding Benediction in each language represented.
A reception with ethnic pastries is planned for after the concert. Admission to the concert is free. For details, call 585-266-7030.
