Time, mysticism, Ramadan and Lent will all be discussed as part of the fall presentation of the 4-year-old Muslim-Catholic Alliance.
Dr. David Stosur and Dr. Mustafa Abushagur will speak about “Consecration of Time in Two Religious Traditions: The Salat (Muslim worship) and the Catholic liturgy” from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, 120 French Road, Pittsford. The presenters will explore how each of their worship traditions consecrate the passing of time.
Nancy DeRycke and Dr. Laila Abdel-Dayem will speak about “Building a Relationship with God: Ramadan and Lent” from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the Islamic Center of Rochester, 727 Westfall Road, Brighton. The presenters will consider the seasons of Ramadan and Lent and how they allow people to grow in faith.
Trappist Father John Eudes and Dr. Muhyiddin Shakoor will speak about “Mysticism: Monks and Sufis” from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the diocesan Pastoral Center’s Bishop Hickey Conference Center, 1150 Buffalo Road, Gates. They will explore the key expressions of spirituality in their respective traditions: monasticism and Sufism.
