The second-annual St. J’s 5K Run and Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. April 26 in Naples. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Naples Community Park.
The race is hosted by St. Januarius Parish, which is part of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, but is billed as a community event. Last year more than 380 runners and walkers participated. The theme of this year’s event is "Mt. Misery Loves Company," since Mt. Pleasant St. — a hilly street that is part of the course — was temporarily dubbed "Mt. Misery" by last year’s race participants.
The registration fee for athletes who enter by Jan. 31 is $12. After Jan. 31, the registration fee will be $14 for Naples Central School District teachers and staff and active law-enforcement officials, firefighters and emergency medical-service providers. The registration fee also is $14 for groups of two or more individuals registering at the same time.
The registration fee for all other single entrants is $15. The registration fee will be $18 for entries received April 16-25, and $20 for race-day entries.
Participants who register by April 16 will be guaranteed a St. J’s 5K T-shirt. The event will be professionally timed and several awards will be given out after the race.
