Michael T. Gehl has been appointed as the new director of Catholic Charities of Schuyler County. He began his new position Oct. 11.
Gehl, an Elmira resident, has a lengthy history in social-services administration. He served for 16 years as administrator of The Falls Home in Montour Falls, and was previously the personnel director at Bethany Village as well as director of the now-defunct Neighborhood House in Elmira. He has also been active as a member of the Catholic Charities board of directors and of the Schuyler Advisory Council.
Gehl replaces Sarah Conley, who retired from her position as Schuyler County Catholic Charities director to join an international ministry that addresses the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
“Catholic Charities is delighted by Mike’s appointment. He is a well-known human service professional in the Chemung-Schuyler area and is a man of deep faith. He has a strong commitment to the Catholic Charities mission and the people we serve,” Anthony Barbaro, associate diocesan director of Catholic Charities, said in a statement.
