Newark school to hold 15th-annual auction

St. Michael School in Newark will hold its annual auction March 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium, 320 S. Main St.

The event will include both live and silent auctions. The sides of the gymnasium will be lined with tables full of items for the silent auction, while the items for the live auction will be displayed on the stage. The items in the auction were donated by families, parishioners and businesses in Wayne, Ontario and Monroe counties.

Items to be auctioned include household items, tools, pool supplies and baskets made by St. Michael students. Each class took up a collection, developed a theme and put together a basket of items related to that theme. This year’s themes are spas, Webkinz, baseball, cooking and baking, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, picnics, Easter, Thai cooking and family fun.

Absentee bidding will be available this year for the first time. There also will be several raffle drawings throughout the evening, as well as a display of jewelry created by the school’s art club.

Families and parents from the school and church communities will host the evening, which is for adults only. Appetizers and desserts will be served, and beer and wine will be available from a cash bar.

Tickets for the event may be purchased at the door for $10.

The auction has been an annual tradition for 15 years and is usually one of the school’s biggest fundraisers.
