In order to provide timely coverage of the installation of Bishop Salvatore R. Matano as ninth Bishop of Rochester, the next print edition of the Catholic Courier will be published on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.
Karen M. Franz, general manager and editor of the Courier and El Mensajero Católico, explained that the next print edition normally would have come out on Feb. 5, since the Courier is issued in both printed and digital form on the first Wednesday of each month except in January and July, when digital editions only are presented. Due to the unusual circumstances this year, she said a combined January/February edition will be issued in printed and digital form because "we didn’t want to make our print readers wait a month to read about the installation on January 3."
Bishop Matano, currently the head of the Diocese of Burlington, Vt., will be installed as Rochester’s ninth bishop in 2 p.m. ceremonies that day at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The January/February edition will include a special keepsake edition about Bishop Matano including significant photographic coverage of his installation. The issue also will include the Courier’s annual slate of stories devoted to Catholic schools related to Catholic Schools Week.
