No dance at Chrism Mass

To the editor:

I attended the Chrism Mass at our renovated Cathedral and was disappointed to see so called Liturgical dancers flitting around the church.

I am disappointed that diocesan officials allowed this on one of the most sacred days in the Liturgical year.

Cardinal Francis Arinze has repeatedly and publicly criticized the so-called Liturgical dance, said he: “There has never been a document from our Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments saying that dance has been approved in the Mass.”

The Liturgical dance is a misuse and abuse of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sec-D “norms for adapting the liturgy to the culture and traditions of peoples.” These dances were intended for the African and Asian continent where cultural differences require it, not North America.
