To the editor:
Our oldest child lives in Montreal where Canadian government health care has been in place for years. I hope we never fall under such a health care program. Besides paying the government 50 percent of her paycheck and having a 16 percent sales tax, even on food, she and others have been waiting way too long for surgeries and biopsies.
Examples: Her husband waited three years for a MRI on his shoulder. She was in so much pain for almost a year before she had surgery that did not work and now will have another. The dates they gave her for the surgery three months ago were the last week in September or the first week in October — "they" finally called and her surgery is now set for Nov. 5. Many of the hospitals are old but clean. And a friend was just diagnosed with cancer but will have to wait a month for a biopsy.
YES, everyone is insured but I wonder how Americans will adjust to a program like this where the government pays the doctors and there probably will not be the free enterprise system we have now.
NOTHING IS FREE IN THIS LIFE!
