One-man performance impresses Owego audience

Promoting the Gospel of Mark is a primary focus of the ongoing diocesan spiritual renewal. In Tioga County, that Gospel literally came to life thanks to a special performance on March 31 at St. Patrick Church in Owego.

Frank Runyeon’s one-man presentation "Afraid!" told the Book of Mark while incorporating audience interaction. The presentation was attended by more than 200 people.

"Frank did a wonderful performance," according to Ann Argetsinger, pastoral associate for Blessed Trinity/St. Patrick parishes. "We were happy with the attendance as well as with the performance."

Argetsinger noted that several local parishioners served as volunteers that night, particularly youths who helped the tech crew, usher and set up for refreshments.

"It was a powerful experience for people," Argetsinger said of Runyeon’s act, noting that she has heard many positive comments since then. She added that "we bought three DVDs of the performance, and all three are out on loan, so that is great."

Runyeon is a former television and film star who worked with Meg Ryan on "As the World Turns" in the 1980s. For many years he has performed the Gospel of Mark to high acclaim across the country.
