To the editor:
The Leadership Council of the U.S. Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph and Associates has recently released a statement on Global Climate Change. We join with others who are concerned for all of God’s Creation and our sisters and brothers everywhere.
We support the Diocesan Public Policy’s initiatives on global climate change and join with them in urging New York state to reduce greenhouse gas emission from all sectors of the economy.
We are especially concerned about the consequences of global climate change on the poor and those who are least responsible for global warming. We join with others in the world community who are calling on the U.S. to sign the Kyoto Treaty.
We commit ourselves to reduce carbon emissions by our activities and lifestyles so that all of God’s people, particularly the poor and vulnerable, will not suffer the devastating effects of climate change. We recognize that what we do to Earth, we do to ourselves.
As members of the U.S. Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph and Associates, we commit ourselves to support ALL life on Earth.
