Deacon Daniel Ruiz, one of the four men scheduled to be ordained to the diocesan priesthood Saturday, June 20, has been called home suddenly to his native Colombia because his mother is gravely ill.
Doug Mandelaro, diocesan spokesperson, said Deacon Ruiz will be ordained by Bishop Salvatore R. Matano after he is able to return to the Diocese of Rochester, on a date yet to be determined. His first priestly assignment, as parochial vicar at St. Benedict Parish in Canandaigua and East Bloomfield, remains in effect.
Bishop Matano will instead ordain three men — Deacons Michael Fowler, Matthew Jones and Carlos Sanchez — on June 20. The ordination liturgy will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Bishop Matano requests that the faithful keep Deacon Ruiz and his family in their prayers.
