Can you believe Christmas is just three days away? With the weather we’ve been having, it doesn’t feel much like Christmas (but I’m not complaining!). This is the type of weather that we had when we began planning our online Advent calendar, a project that I can’t believe it is now coming to an end.
Planning for the calendar began with a three-hour meeting in September to determine what "treats" we were going to include and what days they would be offered. We looked at Gospel readings and feast days for saints. We even looked at including events going on throughout the diocese.
Once we had the calendar all planned out, the staff got to work putting it together. Assistant Editor Jennifer Ficcaglia and Photo Editor Mike Crupi recorded cooking and craft videos in October. Our graphic artist, Linda Rivers, created a word search and designed the image for our coloring/art contest. Whether it was recording a Gospel reading, designing an advertisement/flyer or writing an article about the calendar for the paper, everyone pitched in and did something to help. It really was a team effort.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out our Advent calendar, you still have time. The calendar runs through Dec. 26, so there are still a lot of fun treats to uncover.
If you have checked out calendar over the past month, we appreciate you celebrating this season with us, and we hope it helped you prepare for Jesus’ birth.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. May you feel the love of Christ this Christmas, and I hope it is a time of peace and joy!
