The top-seeded Our Lady of Mercy girls basketball team defeated Bishop Kearney in a tight 65-60 match to take the Section 5 Class A1 championship Feb. 26 at Gates-Chili High School. Mercy went on to defeat Batavia 60-34 March 1 in the Class A state qualifier.
