Outreach concludes flood-relief initiative

Tioga Outreach Center, an agency of Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga, has held its final work weekend to rebuild homes affected by the June 2006 flooding of the Susquehanna River. Twelve volunteers gathered on Oct. 20 to finish up work needed on homes before winter sets in.

“A lot of progress has been made and the few still recovering are on the right track,” said Angela Klopf, director of the Waverly-based outreach center.

"Resources offered to flood victims were just amazing," Klopf added, noting that volunteers and donations came from as far away as Syracuse and Rochester, and local community members developed TARP (Tioga Area Recovery Project).

"Flood victims even supported each other by helping those still in need once they were back on their feet. The amount of compassion shown cannot be measured, nor can enough gratitude be expressed for the support received," Klopf added.
