Outreach program will benefit groups in Elmira

A new outreach effort in Elmira will benefit two local organizations.

St. Mary Southside Parish has launched "St. Mary’s Helping Hand." The goal is to raise $10,000 during 2012 that will be donated to Elmira Community Kitchen, which serves free meals to people in need and is celebrating its 30th anniversary; and Family Health Center of Elmira, which since 1983 has provided health care to low-income, uninsured people.

In recent years St. Mary Parish has conducted similar fundraisers to support residents of Malawi, a small, impoverished African country; and Smile Train, an initiative that provides free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for poor children around the world.
