Outreach programs in Steuben seek help

Several ministries in western Steuben County are seeking donations of various goods.

Steuben County Rural Ministry, located in the former St. Joachim Church at 35 W. Main St. in Canisteo, needs items for its “Back to School” initiative by Aug. 13. Donations of crayons (24 per box), pencils, pens and glue sticks are especially sought.

Birthright of Hornell is looking for business-sized envelopes, postage stamps, bottled water, pregnancy calendars, pregnancy/childbirth/child care/ breast-feeding books (1995 or later), store gift cards for office supplies, printer-ribbon cartridges, monetary donations, brand-new clothing for infants and toddlers, and such used items as blankets, afghans, baby furniture, car seats and bouncers. Birthright is located at 341 Canisteo St. in Hornell. Call 607/281-1089.

The annual “Sister Jude Giveaway” will take place Aug. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall, 251 Main St., Hornell. Items may be dropped off at the K of C hall from 8 a.m. to noon that day. Donations of clean, useable clothing, especially for children, are sought. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to noon for setup, noon to 4 p.m. for the giveaway or 4 to 5 p.m. for cleanup.
