St. Ann Parish in Owasco will kick off the yearlong celebration of its 100th anniversary with a special Mass with Bishop Matthew H. Clark at 6 p.m. Jan. 7. There will be a family-style dinner immediately after the Mass for all current and former parishioners and priests.
The parish has planned at least one anniversary event for each season of the anniversary year. On May 19 the parish will hold a Mass dedicated to all couples married at St. Ann and all people baptized there, and the Mass will be followed by a dinner dance. The parish will hold its annual chicken barbecue on July 22, the Sunday nearest St. Ann’s feast day, and this year’s barbecue will feature such special events as horse and buggy rides, wine tasting and an ice cream sundae bar.
There will be a chicken and biscuit dinner Sept. 9 at Camp Columbus on Owasco Lake before the anniversary year concludes with a 9 p.m. Mass at St. Ann next Christmas Eve.
Other celebratory activities are in the works and will be announced as more details become available. The parish also will be selling commemorative mugs, a historical brochure and other St. Ann memorabilia.
