St. Ann Parish in Owasco will hold its annual chicken barbecue and bazaar at 11 a.m. July 22 on the church grounds on Main Street, Route 38A.
Chicken dinners — which cost $7 — will include barbecued chicken, salt potatoes with drawn butter, baked beans with bacon, rolls, drinks and dessert. Hamburgers, hot dogs, beer and wine also will be available.
The event also will feature children’s games, drawings and prizes from local merchants, and a raffle drawing with prizes of $1,000, $500 and $100.
The chicken-barbecue fundraiser is held each year on the Sunday closest to July 26, the feast day of St. Ann, said parishioner Roberta Bellnier. The annual event began in the late 1940s as a chicken-and-biscuit dinner sponsored by the Altar and Rosary Society and the Men’s Club, and eventually evolved into the present barbecue and bazaar.
